Summary: A series of studies detail outcomes of the SAFE BABIES, SAFE MOMS program, which began as the Comprehensive Program Evaluation Project in 2000 as pilot in three county areas (Benton/Franklin, Snohomish, and Whatcom). The project is a collaborative effort between the Department of Social and Health Services and the state Department of Health and seeks to improve the health and welfare of substance abusing mothers and their young children. The project is intended to improve long-term outcomes for these families and bring a return on investment for the clients' future. Services offered to substance abusing mothers who are pregnant and/or parenting children under age 3 include Targeted Intensive Case Management, Residential/Outpatient Chemical Dependency Treatment, Housing Support Services for Transitional Housing, Parenting Education, and Child Development Assessments and Referrals.
