Washington State Medicaid
Integration Project (WMIP)
Description: Research and Data Analysis is providing analytic support
to the Department of Social and Health Services' Washington State Medicaid
Integration Project (WMIP) that was developed to examine the potential
benefits of providing services in a more integrated fashion to aged
and disabled clients who receive medical care, mental health treatment,
and long-term care services.
Three sub-projects are currently underway:
Medicaid
Integration Project – Detailed administrative records of DSHS services and
costs have been compiled for aged and disabled clients in four recent fiscal
years. These data will be
analyzed to determine what patterns of service use, diagnoses and client
characteristics appear to be related to subsequent use of
medical, mental health, and long-term care and resulting costs.
Mental
Health Cost Offset Study – This study will provide a detailed description
of clients who need and those who received mental health services in recent
years. In addition, the study will examine the effects of
different patterns of mental health treatment on medical care
costs.
Gravely Disabled Project – Detailed profiles will be
prepared to describe the chemical dependency history, criminal justice involvement,
and recent use of DSHS services among clients who are gravely disabled due
to drug or alcohol dependency and who are receiving chemical dependency
treatment and integrated case management in seven counties through the
Gravely Disabled pilot
project.
