Psychology Training
Welcome to the official Psychology training site at Western State Hospital (WSH) and thank you for your interest in our hospital. This site provides information regarding training opportunities for undergraduate and graduate students.
There are currently openings available for graduate and undergraduate students seeking volunteer activities, such as assessment, therapy, and/or research. For graduate students, formal practicum experiences may be pursued.
In addition to unpaid experiences, WSH offers two training experiences that provide payment to students. In cooperation with the Special Commitment Center (SCC) on McNeil Island and the Child Study and Treatment Center (CSTC), WSH offers an APA-accredited pre-doctoral internship program. Four pre-doctoral interns are selected annually. WSH also provides, in cooperation with the Washington Institute for Mental Health Research and Training, a post-doctoral fellowship in forensic psychology. One post-doctoral fellow is selected annually.
