APA-Accredited Pre-Doctoral Internship

Overview

The internship year is September 1, 2007 to August 31, 2008, during which interns are expected to complete three four-month rotations. Rotation sites at Western State Hospital include the Center for Forensic Services (Inpatient and/or Outpatient), Center for Adult Services (Acute and/or Extended Care), the Center for Older Adult Services, and Neuropsychology (availability subject to change). Additional rotation sites include Child Study and Treatment Center and the Special Commitment Center (required rotation). The rotation selection is intended to balance individual intern interests and training needs. Opportunities may be available for year-long provision of supervised individual and group psychotherapy.

The internship program follows a practitioner-scholar model. Interns participate in a theoretical and professional issues seminar series which generally runs weekly throughout the year and is presented by Psychology Department members. In addition, interns participate in a 12-session series addressing criminal forensic psychology issues. This series is presented by the Washington Institute for Mental Illness Training and Research.

Positions

For the 2007-2008 internship year, there will be four (4) positions available. All positions are general positions, and although interns with have a variety of rotation options, there are no specialty tracks.

Applications

All application materials (including a self-addressed postcard for notification of completion) should include: 1) APPIC application form; 2) your current Vita and Graduate transcripts; 3) the academic programs Verification of Internship Eligibility and Readiness section of your application, signed by your Director of Training; 4) three (3) letters of reference, one of which must be from the Director of Clinical Training (refer to Reference Information Form in the back of the brochure); 5) a copy of one (1) of your psychological evaluations with test protocols.
