Upsetting thoughts, feelings and flashbacks are normal reactions after a disaster like the December windstorm and flooding, which touched so many lives in Southwest Washington. Many of us find that our emotional reactions to a disaster are pushed aside during the actual crisis, only to return long after the event. If you are feeling stuck and having trouble getting your life back on track, Washington State's Disaster Outreach Services can help. These services are being offered through local agencies and the Department of Social and Health Services -- that's DSHS. Information, resources, referrals, and other solutions are available to any storm victim. DSHS also encourages all residents affected by the storm to fill out a FEMA loan application and register with that agency immediately, whether or not they think they are eligible or need a loan as filed paperwork could be helpful in the future. The deadline to register with FEMA is February 7, 2008. For general assistance, call Disaster Outreach Services at 1-800-850-8775. That's 1-800-850-8775.
