Benefit Errors - Alien Sponsor Overpayments

Revised October 28, 2007

Purpose:

Alien sponsor cash, medical, and food assistance overpayments.

WAC 388-410-0035

WORKER RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Inform the sponsor on the Food Stamp Inadvertent Household Error Over-issuance Letter, BE1F that only the sponsored alien household will be held liable if the sponsor can show good cause for reporting the incorrect information.
  2. Contact the sponsor in person or by phone after sending the overpayment letter. Explain the good cause provision. Document the contact in the narrative in ACES.

  3. If the sponsor shows good cause for reporting the incorrect information, complete a new overpayment referral to inform OFR that only the alien household is responsible.

  4. If the department determines that an assistance unit’s overpayment amount needs to be modified because of an error, the worker should refer to the ACES manual Benefit Error Group, Modify a BEG – Underpayment or Overpayment.
