I have worked with the Department of Social and Health Services/Children’s Administration since 1979, when I started my college internship in Child Protective Services.

Somehow, what was meant to be a 2 month work experience turned into a 23 year career! I have had the opportunity, during this time, to work as a social worker in a variety of capacities. This included doing CPS intake and investigations, intervening in family conflict situations (Family Reconciliation Services), and working as a social worker with a caseload of over 40, mostly teenage, dependent children.

After moving to Moscow Idaho in 1985, I spent 5 years working in rural Whitman County Washington, as one of two social workers for that community. It was at this point, that I added adoptions and licensing to my resume. With only two social workers, you really needed to know how to do everything (including raising and lowering the state flag in front of the building)!.

It was upon my return to the Pierce County area, that I had my first taste of training. As a child day care licensor I was responsible for the orientation workshops for new providers. I knew then, that this was something I loved!

In 1996, I accepted the position of Foster Parent Training Program Manager, and have found it to be one of the most challenging and rewarding jobs I have ever held. My favorite part of the work is putting together the yearly special topic training plan. This involves taking the feedback I have gotten from both foster parents and staff, and then finding knowledgeable and entertaining trainers to provide one-day workshops on these topics. So, come join us for a class! I think you’ll have a good time (and learn something too!).
