Resource Family Training Institute

Orientation & Pre-Service Training

Guardians of dependent children and kinship families are welcome to attend all classes provided statewide by the Resource Family Institute, free of charge, whether or not you are licensed.

Foster Parent Training Requirements:

  • Orientation - You must attend an orientation session in person (click on map) or view the videos below and take an orientation quiz.
  • Pre-service Training - You are required to take 30 hours of Pre-service Training. Click on the map for the course schedule.
  • First Aid/CPR and Blood Borne Pathogens - You are required to take a First Aid/CPR and Blood Borne Pathogens course. This course is offered free of charge by Keep the Beat CPR & First Aid Training. Go to their web site to view class schedules and sign up for a class.
  • Physically Assaultive Youth and Sexually Aggressive Youth - In order to care for children or youth with these behaviors you must watch a video, attend a 6 hour classroom course, and then take a test and submit the test to your licensor.

Foster Parent Orientation Videos

Applicants for foster home licensure must attend an orientation session in person or view these videos and take an orientation quiz.

Take this orientation quiz after viewing the orientation videos. Follow the instructions after the quiz and send your results to your licensor.

Following orientation, applicants must complete 30 hours of Pre-service Training, offered regularly in all regions of Washington State.
