This position is responsible for defining the strategic direction of the division's statewide evaluation/quality assurance efforts. It oversees the conduct of multiple scientific studies to insure they meet the division's information needs to guide and direct policy. This includes the design, initiation, and supervision/monitoring of studies that address state and national policy issues related to the prevalence, treatment, and prevention of substance abuse. It includes collaboration with external researchers via management of contracts and agency agreements. The position is also responsible for insuring studies undertaken meet the highest standards of scientific rigor.
This position is responsible for the translation of highly complex technical data into understandable documents and presentations that can be used to drive policy, program planning, and budget decisions at the state, county, and provider levels. This includes the creation of documents, query tools and procedures that employer all levels of users to adopt data-driven decision-making.
This position serves as primary liaison to the substance abuse research community both in Washington State and nationally to generate collaborations that further the division's evaluation/quality assurance agenda, including the pursuit of grants, publications of policy-related study results in peer-reviewed journals, identification of researchers with relevant expertise to provide testimony at legislative hearings, and the like.
This position is responsible for supervising four doctoral level staff to insure they produce scientifically rigorous information that the division can use in formulating policy, planning, and budget decisions.
